The Bay Village Community Band was organized in the spring of 1978 through the inspiration of then Mayor, James Cowles to have a home town band. He engaged Roland Hosmer, retired Bay High School Band Director to get the group started. Sever months after the band was organized, Mr. Hosmer called upon Thomas Hill, a member of the band, to become co-director. Mr. Hill took over the sole directorship following Mr. Hosmer’s death in 1986. During the band’s history, the band has performed in over 300 concert programs.
The band’s repertoire consists of a wide variety of musical compositions including:
- Marches
- Overtures
- Patriotic Songs
- Waltzes
- Pop Tunes
- Musicals
- Show Tunes
- Music for the Movies
- Big Band (30’s, 40’s 50’s, 60’s etc)
- Children’s Songs
The band is composed of approximately 60 musicians in an age range of 16 to 86. All members in the band are donating their talent and time for the rehearsals and performance, because they enjoy playing good band music and performing for audiences of all ages. The majority of concerts are held in Bay Village, OH. Over the years we have performed at shopping malls, retirement homes, outdoor gazebos, and also the U.S. Navy Department.
The band is currently under the direction of Mr. David Hager.
